Megan Schimke

Megan began dancing at a young age at Monona Academy of Dance and performing in Dance Wisconsin’s Nutcracker Fantasy. After a family move to central Wisconsin in her middle school years, she continued her studies at Academie de la danse with Marlene Turbin Weldon. In 2016, she graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan where she studied with Cameron Basden, Wendy Masterson, Joseph Morrissey, and Justin Koertgen. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. During her time at UW-Madison she was featured in repertory by Jin-Wen Yu and Liz Sexe. Throughout her high school and undergraduate studies, Megan has gotten to work with guest artists such as: Megan Williams (Mark Morris), Carol Teitelbaum (Merce Cunningham Dance Company), Virginia Garcia and Damián Muñoz (la intrusa), and Sidra Bell (Sidra Bell Dance New York).

Megan has also worked as a choreographer, having three works featured in annual adjudicated student concerts at UW-Madison, two works commissioned by former peers (one of them being featured in a Dance Wisconsin concert). Through awarded scholarship during undergrad studies, Megan developed an evening length work, Bittersweet.

In recent years Megan has had the opportunities to attend workshops such as the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Intensive, the New Dialect Intensive with Banning Bouldin, a GagaPeople Workshop in New York City with former and current Batsheva Dance Company members, and the b12 Contemporary Dance Festival in Berlin, Germany.

Megan loves working with a variety of ages and abilities at Monona Academy of Dance! You can find her teaching styles such as: ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary.
